When in doubt, revert to a boring, no-frills template. Oh well, I have needed to make some changes around here so maybe this will spur me on. I can do it in all my spare time between keeping the triplet lemmings from causing confusion and delay and getting all up in the kid’s grill to do his homework and maintain basic hygiene. How is it that it doesn’t bother him to not shower or brush his teeth unless I make him? Gross kid, gross. I bathed him every night when he was younger and faithfully brushed his teeth but damn, he’s almost eight. Time to take over son and being grimy is NOT COOL.

Anyway. How about Iowa letting gay and lesbian couples wed? Go Iowa! I knew I liked you for a reason. I think gay couples should be allowed to marry and have the same rights as a hetero couple. They aren’t cheapening my man-woman marriage and I don’t feel threatened. If you want to deal with someone else driving you crazy and leaving his or her dirty socks on the floor? Go for it. Oh, and love, honor, etc.

I have had a headache all damn day and I’m not getting a break anytime soon. Jack is sitting on my left hand shoving an empty glass in my face while I type this with my right hand and toes. If anyone out there wants to help me migrate from clogger to Word Press? I’ll be your best friend and may send you a kid. I tried to straight import but my 1000+ entries don’t exist to Word Press. If Terms of Endearment is on television (do i have to warn you of a spoiler if the movie is older than most pop stars of the moment?) and there are no adults or children of speaking age around, I’ll watch it and I’ll sob when Debra Winger is dying* and says goodbye to her sons. When she tells Teddy not to cry but he does anyway, my heart breaks in half. When Shirley MacLaine yells at the nurses that her daughter is in pain and it is time for her pain medicine, tears pour down my face while I cry the ugly cry. I do this with Steel Magnolias as well (okay, and the end of Beaches) because I just can’t take it when Julia Roberts dies while making spaghetti and her little boy cries next to her body. I didn’t expect the movie 300 to make me cry but last weekend, I cried while watching a vicious, bloody movie about battling Spartans and Persians. I guess I’m just a little sensitive.

Julie at a little pregnant has been one of my favorite online writers for years. Recently, her father died suddenly in a motorcycle accident. Her last two posts about his death and her grieving made me cry like I was watching one of those movies or reading the end of a gut-wrenching book. I don’t think a “blog” has ever made me cry before. I want to reach out across the internet and hug her while calling my own parents to tell them they have to live forever.

*How could Flap cheat on her? And then make her pick up and move her life AND kids because of his girlfriend? That rat bastard! Damn you Jeff Daniels! Though I doubt most men would actually let their mother-in-law take the kids after their wife died. I need to actually read the book because I never figured out if Patsy Emma cheated on Flap with the guy she met at the grocery store. Does anyone else have such deep love of this movie? Why didn’t I realize it was a Larry McMurty novel? Why haven’t I read more of his books?

oi with the updates. i think of topics to write about all the time but they don’t make it on the proverbial paper. really? the problem comes down to my eldest child. i made a huge mistake when i introduced him to you tube. i don’t know why i did it- maybe i wanted him to leave me alone so i could watch t.v. that wasn’t nickelodeon or cartoon network (though i do like billy and mandy. i now think of death with a jamaican accent which makes it all the more cheery).

i turned on my laptop, pulled up you tube and searched the simpsons. whoa. the first ten times we watched the same five episodes of the simpsons were highly amusing and now? like anything else the child has ever enjoyed, he has repeatedly hammered it into my brain until i want to pull out my own spleen when i hear the simpsons theme song.

did you know if you search “the simpsons” on the tube, one of the top results is, “Homer smokes weed” and every time he clicked on the results page, i tried to rapidly arrow down so he wouldn’t want to watch that particular episode. yeah. that worked once. now i type in “the simpsons treehouse of horrors” because zombies are apparently better for kids than weed. i think he’s watched the controversial high homer one when i was out of the room pulling one of the triplets off the ceiling fan. i’ve also caught him trying to watch family guy which kills me because i’m always up for the family guy but no! have to be responsible parental figure and not let him watch. well, not for more than a few minutes and not if quagmire is in the scene.

do you see the horrible annoyance i have introduced into my life? everytime i sneakily take out my laptop, he’s there. he gives me this huge grin and squeeks, “YOOOOOOU TUUUUBE” all gollum like and the annoyance just makes me hand it over to shut him up. then i can’t update this mug because he’s watching the simpsons. it obviously isn’t my fault.

i am worn out. a cold has infiltrated our homestead and i’m afraid a storm’s a brewin. cross your fingers that little miss thing doesn’t get pneumonia. sigh- c’mon lily, if you can stay off the ventilator for six months, you might get that stupid tube out of your neck.

i think jack is dipping his head in the toilet. dammit- gotta run.

My babies are turning two years old this weekend. I’d tell you more but I have 1008 things to do in two hours. Ethan is sitting next to me shouting, “EEEEELLLLLMMMMOOOOO” and the oldest is in the kitchen yelling, “En guarde babies!!”

last night, i had a very detailed dream about our subdivision entrance. can you get more mundane? the narrow gap of land between curbs houses a large, recently painted sign and, until recently, not enough landscaping rocks, weeds and a few pathetic shrubs. our neighbor was recently elected as a subdivision trustee and tore out all of the crap so there is nothing but a bunch of dirt and a sign. we’ve decided it looks better as dirt but look forward to nice landscaping when the heat breaks. this is the single father neighbor who re-built his garage so it would fit his colossal truck and decided the exterior of his home needed a change so he bricked the entire thing in his spare time. i have high hopes for our new entrance.

in my dream, i drove past the subdivision entrance and noticed it was completely cleaned and the old landscaping rock was put back in the dirt. i was disappointed at the lack of change but thought, “oh, the dirt is covered again. i’m surprised i didn’t see them working on it.”

today? i drove past the entrance and saw the dirt still upturned and the rock still gone. “whoa”, i thought, “it was all a dream. i dreamt for what seemed like hours about landscaping- and not even in my own yard.”

does this happen to other people? i regularly dream about boring details, wake up thinking they really happened and then surprise myself when i realize it wasn’t in my waking world but I had totally convinced myself otherwise. another example is when i didn’t buy bananas at the grocery store because i had dreamt that i bought some at the fruit stand and didn’t need more. i hadn’t gone to the fruit stand in two weeks while awake but apparently, my subconscious needed some produce.

If you are going to run into your ex-marriage counselor that you just sorta stopped going to without explanation, I guess there are worse places than while standing in line at the frozen custard stand with your smiling husband and child after an evening of meeting the teacher and being upstanding parents.

My family is doing well and we seemed to have settled back into a groove. We’ve had a difficult year but our health and happiness seems to be steadily improving. Mike and I are laying in bed next to each other – me on my laptop and him on his X-Box. Life is good.

I have been a big fan of postsecret for a few years now. Frank, the man behind the site, posted a short video today coinciding with the release of a new book. It is beautiful. The first postcard secret of the video is the one that I can’t stop thinking about. Did that person simply walk away from their life?

On our first day in Florida, Jack climbed out of his pack and play at dawn, jumped on me and shouted, “MA!”. I walked him down to the beach while the rest of the kids slept under my parents’ guidance.

Jack walked up to the shore, looked out at the ocean and told it “SHHHHHHH!”. I don’t know if he was trying to tell it to be quiet or just imitating the sound of the waves crashing. Either way, cute.
